Grab 'Em By The Songs
Grab 'Em By The Songs
Host and founder Kim Lembo present's "Grab 'Em By The Songs" the fourth Wednesday's of the month at
Ivy Room 860 San Pablo Ave, Albany, California 94706
featuring women sharing songs in the round.
Emily Zisman
Emily Zisman
Emily Zisman is an unapologetic storyteller of the contemporary woman’s experience. She uses unabashed honesty and humor to punctuate the complexity of the entire escapade. Through songwriting, Emily seeks to foster healing and sincere connection by writing instinctually. She writes songs that excavate shame and shine a light on the goodness and humor buried under each painful moment. Hilarity and devastation continue to ensue, and so in turn does she.
Deborah Crooks
Deborah Crooks
California songwriter Deborah Crooks' lyric-driven and soul-wise music draws on folk, rock and Americana, and is often compared to Lucinda Williams and The Cowboy Junkies. Her music ventures into everything from funk and reggae to the blues, reflecting her expansive and eclectic tastes, a sound which has evolved over her years studying writing and poetics at The Naropa Institute, voice with Chloe Goodchild and Mysore V. Amba Prasad (India), and cowriting and collaborating with her Bay Area peers. She’s released several CDs and EPs of critically noted original music, including 2016's Beauty Everywhere, the acclaimed 2013 release, Little Bird, and had her music featured on the PBS Series Road Trip Nation and Songwriters From the Fog Compilation V1. In 2014, she cofounded the band Bay Station with Kwame Copeland, which released its third CD, Other Desert Cities, in April 2018.
Francesca Lee
Francesca Lee
Francesca Lee writes songs that tell intimate stories of the human heart that are intensely honest yet soulful and soothing. She is best known for her rich velvety voice and stripped-down acoustic style in the folk/pop genre. In addition to crafting the recordings, Francesca has been headlining with her band The New Believers at high profile NoCal venues like Yoshi’s, Café Du Nord and her home base, Hotel Utah. Selected for inclusion for the KFOG Local Scene 6 CD, Francesca was featured in a live broadcast and interview from San Jose on the station’s Morning Show to celebrate the station’s Local Music Month.

The daughter of a Polish mother and a Japanese-born Korean father, Francesca grew up between the Bay Area and Texas. She graduated from high school in Alameda, California where she says she “kept to myself and wrote songs.” Her dream was to live in England. Accepted into the prestigious Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) the college founded by Sir Paul McCartney, Francesca raised tuition money with street performances and personal fundraisers.
