Yea-Ming And The Rumours
Yea-Ming And The Rumours
The songs on Yea-Ming and the Rumours’ debut album, “I Will Make You Mine,” are some of the sweetest, sunniest '60s-evoking folk-pop you’ll hear — except for the dark, even menacing bits that unexpectedly peek out of shadows that you might not even have noticed. “Gunshots ring out on the street,” the Bay Area native Yea-Ming Chen sings in the middle of the otherwise bubbly opener, “Where Did Our Moment Go,” a little pathetic fallacy of the lost moment. - Steve Hochman / KQED
Sweet Chariot
Sweet Chariot
Sweet Chariot is a San Francisco and Oakland based band with members who prefer old gear and cold beer. Their timeless rock ‘n’ roll is a blend of pickled pub rock and greasy biker boogie trimmed in the smoky tones of West Coast canyon-twang.
Sweet Chariot comprises singer/guitarist Eric Shea (Hot Lunch, Mover) and Planes Of Satori drummer Chris Labreche – both dudes from the bygone band Parchman Farm. They also landed bass player Doran Shelley, a former member of The Cramps and Nik Turner’s Hawkwind. Ride The Blinds’ frontman Chris Guthridge completes the band with shared singing duties and top-shelf lead guitar playing.

On her latest album, Oh Evolution, the San Francisco-rooted guitarist/vocalist and bandleader explores the evolution of love, life, relationships, and the self through sun-kissed psychedelic rock, doo-wop, and bubblegum pop fused with rock fuzz and the occasional heavy riff. Written largely between touring stints for Fast Moving Clouds, and recorded at San Francisco’s El Studio with Phil Manley (Trans Am, Phil Manley Life Coach), the album offers a more open-ended approach to life than its predecessor (2015’s Fast Moving Clouds), where the timing of things counts for a lot, uncomfortable or painful moments may pass, and the future is still left to be written.
