Magic In The Other
Magic In The Other
"This band is an intelligent music listener’s dream. The music is danceable but also worthy of focus to see their communication in real time...It is something special to bear witness to the birth of a band that could potentially take a scene by storm, you feel like you’re in on something – witness to something great...This band is worth your ears.." - Glide Magazine

Magic In The Other founder and leader Ezra Lipp has spent the last decade honing his craft as one of the most creative, versatile, and in-demand drummers in the Bay Area and beyond. He has performed all over the US and around the world with an impressive and diverse roster of bands and artists including the likes of Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, Iranian counter-culture superstar Mohsen Namjoo, Folk-Soul troubadour Sean Hayes, and many others. In this long-overdue original project, Lipp has created a collaborative vehicle with which to express his unique musical sensibilities. Magic In The Other brings to life original compositions, presents creative twists on unexpected covers, and delves into unexplored musical territory only possible when communicating deeply with other fine musicians and a potent audience. Undoubtedly, the performance is also peppered with banter and antics reflecting Lipp’s unique brand of humor and creativity.

In the very first incarnation of Magic In The Other, Ezra Lipp has recruited a swift and nimble trio featuring the relentlessly groovy Steve Adams on the bass (ALO, Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers) and innovative Oakland guitarist Roger Riedlbauer (Mercury Falls). The music indirectly borrows from many different influences and idioms: be it the rhythmic sophistication of Jazz and West African music, the energy and spirit of Rock N’ Roll, the movement based compositional format of Western Classical, or the improvisatory intensity of North India Ragas. However, it ultimately fuses many influences together to create something unique and refreshing. Magic In The Other attempts to deeply connect with the listener, creating a mentally stimulating, emotionally resonate, highly danceable, and distinctly transformative experience where everyone leaves feeling slightly more magical.
MITO is thrilled to be hosted at The Ivy Room this fall where they will be playing 6 shows between Oct-Dec with a different band every night!

Magic In The Other is in the middle of a Kickstarter campaign to fund their debut album, you can learn about the project here. http://bit.ly/MITOKickStarter

Born on the stage of countless nights at Terrapin Crossroads, The Casual Coalition are a branch from the "community music tree" that was planted at the Marin county venue, owned by Grateful Dead bassist, Phil Lesh.
The Coalition features mainstays, Brian Rashap, Craig MacArthur and Scott Guberman, as well as numerous collaborators that rotate within, such as Stu Allen (Phil Lesh & Friends, Mars Hotel), Dan “LEBO” Lebowitz (ALO), Greg Loiacono (Mother Hips), Scott Law (Phil Lesh & Friends, Cosmic Twang), Mark Karan (Ratdog, Phil Lesh & Friends), Dave Zirbel (San Geronimo), Ezra Lipp (Phil Lesh & Friends), Danny Luehring (San Geronimo). All are a product of the intermingling of various musical collaborations that happen on a daily basis at Terrapin Crossroads.
The band also showcases some original songs put forth by contributing members. The songs are then nurtured & grown within each configuration. Categorized as improvisational indie-rock, the band has been known to really explore the songs in an exciting, different way every performance.
