The Stubborn Lovers
The Stubborn Lovers
Fueled by whiskey, vinyl, and heartache, The Stubborn Lovers rumble like a vintage pony car across the landscape of American roots music. Imagine Emmylou and Dolly jamming with Springsteen and the ghost of Gram Parsons at a lonesome roadhouse, with gorgeous vocals and soaring pedal steel over big beats and ringing guitars.

Having previously released two EPs, the Portland, Oregon-based quintet released its first full-length recording, Mother Road, in August 2018. Lead single “Porch Light” recalls ‘70s Southern rock in its vivid evocation of a childhood summer, while follow-up “Drivin’ 22” is a rowdy roadhouse rocker that mines a similar vein of nostalgia. The album’s 10 songs, recorded at a Vancouver, Washington studio that once played host to Willie Nelson, explore themes of family—those we’re born into and those we make ourselves—and the road that both leads us away from and brings us back home.

Statuesque songbird Valerie Jay was born and raised in Yorkshire, England. Drawing influences from great country performers such as Patsy Cline, EmmyLou and Linda Ronstadt, Jay launched her band on to the country circuit.

Valerie Jay & The Americanos are a country based, roots-rock band that plays Jay’s original songs next to classic Americana favorites. Ben Fong-Torres offers: “Valerie Jay is a country belter out of England - Emmylou, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt – Jay’s right in there, mixing country and soul, her voice full of heartbreak and passion.”

For Jay’s third independent release ‘England’s Calling’, music producer Tom Tyson had high praise “Valerie Jay has one of the best country voices I have ever had the pleasure to record, the way she phrases the lyrics makes you believe that every word is coming straight from her heart”.
