Nik Freitas
Nik Freitas is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer living in Alhambra, Ca, a small suburb east of downtown Los Angeles. A self taught musician and engineer, Nik records and plays everything on his records.

Freitas was a staff photographer and writer for Thrasher Magazine in the late 90’s and early 2000’s before quitting to turn his attention to music full time in 2002. Since then, Nik has released 7 records and has toured his own music extensively as an opening act for many U.S./European tours with Bright Eyes, Jenny Lewis, Jason Lyle of Grandaddy, Azure Ray, and Lucius.

Nik is a member of Conor Oberst’s Mystic Valley Band and was also in the live performing band for the Danger Mouse and James Mercer project Broken Bells, playing electric guitar and synthesizers for their 2010 world tour. Freitas has also toured with Jenny Lewis playing drums, Johnathan Rice as his bass Player, and also played Bass for M.Ward’s 2014 tour of Australia, Europe and the Eastern U.S
Mike Alexis (the Wild Kindness solo)
Mike Alexis (the Wild Kindness solo)
Mike formed the Wild Kindness in 2012 with some old friends willing to give the band thing another go around, but after a few EPs and a handful of shows, the band split in 2014. In 2016, Mike regrouped with a slightly new lineup of old friends, holed up in a room in Marin County and the Wild Kindness re-emerged in 2018 with the full length LP, Happy Now, released on 20-Sided Records. The album sheds light on some overlooked corners of rock 'n' roll. Mixing jangly guitars and an ear for melody into a sound that nods to the obscure indie rock of New Zealand's Flying Nun Records, early I.R.S Records and C86 darlings Close Lobsters, The Wild Kindness play a style of amplified beat music that is circa now, always following their instincts and keeping songcraft in high regard.
Nathan Wanta (Walking in Sunlight & Friends)
Nathan Wanta (Walking in Sunlight & Friends)
Nathan met Greg after a show at the Make-Out Room in San Francisco where their bands Last of the Blacksmiths and Dame Satan used to play. Dame Satan lasted a while, until it didn’t, and then Greg started playing with the Blacksmiths.

The Blacksmiths weren’t playing many folk songs in those days; they rented a practice space full of gear one turn off San Jose Ave. (the same ave. Matt Bauer lived on, but down a ways). So Nathan and Greg started getting together on their own just for a chance to play without plugging in or lugging. A few Carter Family songs were scratched and clawed,
and Dry Bones, and the Wagoner’s Lad, and Willie Moore.

Nathan and Eva would often sing songs together at night,
and so before long Eva started singing with Walking in Sunlight, too. This was all before little Maybelle arrived, and well before brother Lee. Eventually Last of the Blacksmiths stopped playing too, and Walking in Sunlight was their band.
You’ve got to play your songs someplace, in some kind of way.

And so it was for a while:
learning old songs from time to time,
writing some new ones, making a record,
never really making much of an effort to get shows
but somehow playing quite a lot of shows anyway,
nice and easy.

When Greg moved to the east coast he found he had to cancel his usual bike rides over to Nathan and Eva’s house on Alabama St. But they had already started making a second record, and for the next couple-few years –by upload and and by download, by screen-share and by steady care – they finally finished it. And then a while later they got around
to deciding to share it and called it FADES.

Sometimes Nathan or Greg makes the journey east or west,
and Walking in Sunlight learns a couple new songs.
Good pals who like to play, better with each other than without.
